Cymbopogon citratus
The famous, tropical lemon-flavored herb of Thai cuisine. It has long, slender, pale green stems that are thick and fleshy. This perennial must be grown in warm weather or inside to keep from freezing. Add to soups, curries and stir-fries. Enjoy cooking with it often. Also a medicinal herb.

I enjoy cooking with this as I like Indonesian recipes. It gives a wonderful tropical flavor to recipes. This year is the first time I started lemongrass from seed using seeds from Marys Heirloom Seeds. Inititally, i planted it in my hydroponic system, and then zi planted it out after the last frost. With the excess rain and the heat we have been having, my lemongrass has been thriving! It is looking healthy and smells delicious! I cannot wait to harvest this for my recipes. ZI will be digging this up in the fall to overwinter, and I hope it will be large enough where I can split the root into several pieces to make enough for a border for next year!
I love this plant. I brought mine in (they aren't perennial in NE) and they are growing with my favorite 3 year old pepper plant in front of my French doors. Good addition to Asian soups and other dishes. I also put them in pots on my deck to help fight mosquitos. Thank you Mary, the seeds I planted came up and are thriving.
