Famous French melon listed by Vilmorin in 1885. Sweet smooth winter melon with a hard rind. Pale green flesh is an absolute delight. Fruits will keep for several weeks if kept cool and dry.

The name literally translates to 'ball of gold', presumably inspired by the fruits orb-like shape and brilliant yellow exterior. It is a hardy variety of muskmelon that is botanically classified as Cucumis melo inodorus.
