Echinacea, bee balm, petunias, and squash plants attract lots of bees around here until late summer when the sweet autumn clematis blooms. Then there are soooo many bees it is a cautious walk around the property as I have the fences heavily draped with them and they look like snow…in the winter the snow laden vibes look like in bloom in the moonlight! 😊
Kamay Flemens on
White clover! It brings ALL the bees to the yard!

Oh golly it is impossible to narrow it down to just one, but a very cool thing that happened this summer was that I had a whole bed of breadseed poppies that reseeded from some I grew last year. I didn’t even know they scattered the way they did until they came up this spring, so I left them. While they have been blooming, there have been as many as 15 or more bees in a single poppy flower! The flower shakes like crazy while they are in there and while standing among the blossoms in that bed, it’s like being a beekeeper in the apiary! I loved it! I will do it again next year but on purpose as it has made it difficult to harvest my garlic this year.
Pamy Hard on
My all time favorite are sunflowers, you can’t look at a sunflower and stay sad. Though not much can beat being in an entire meadow or field blooming with delightful wild flowers of every kind; hearing the buzzing of our busy little friends lapping up its pollen.

When it blooms I will have hundreds of honey bee quietly buzzing around getting nectar. I love watching them in the evening sun gathering as much as they can.

Out of all of the flowers on offer, native, non-native, blooming vegetables, when the catnip plants flower, the bumblebees and other tiny bee species are always all over it, over anything else.

I’m a sunflower girl. They grow wild here in Austin, TX on the sides of roads, and I wanted to bring that beauty to my garden. It is a common site to see bumblebees and other pollinators on my sunflowers, and they always bring a smile to my face.
Also, wanted to give a shout out from a former Escondido resident (go Orange Glen High School Patriots!). I really miss Julian apple pie, Mira Mar air show, Del Mar fair footlong corn dogs, dog beech, and feeding the goats at Bate’s Nut Farm.
Sending you love from Austin, TX :D

I always try something new each Spring/Summer and this year it is Rhubarb from seed and Elderberry from seed.- both of which will have to be indoors this winter, but may be very nice if they survive for planting in garden next Spring.
