White Velvet Okra

$ 3.00

50-70 days. Abelmoschus esculentus

White Velvet Okra has been an important part of Southern foodways (particularly in Alabama) for over 100 years. It was made commercially available in 1890 and was widely popular due to its tender fruit lacking spines, and beautiful contrast to the colors of tomato based soups, or sometimes in fresh salads, pickles, gumbos, or by itself.

This tender heirloom is extremely rare these days.

Smooth pods remain tender up to 8 in. long. White Velvet Okra plants can grow up to 10 feet tall.

Contains 20 heirloom seeds

New Arrival for 2024 with very limited availability

Planting Instructions:  Prior to planting, soak okra seeds for 12-18 hours.  Seeds should be sown in warm conditions, covered very lightly (depth of ½ inch) and kept reasonably moist until seedlings emerge.
