Mexican Sour Gherkin Cucumber

$ 3.50

75 days. Incredible, small cucumber-like fruit are shaped like baby watermelons. They are good added to salads or can be pickled. They have a cucumber-like taste with a touch of lemon. The ornamental vines have tiny leaves and flowers and are perfect for the cottage garden. Very unique and fun for kids.

Contains 15 heirloom seeds

A must!

The kids, chickens, goats and I would be very sad if we didn't grow these. They're the perfect yard snack! We ate them every day when we went out and threw some to the animals too. They're very prolific, easy plants. I direct seeded, and they took off wonderfully! You only need a couple plants to cover a trellis.

Charming and Delicious

10/10 will grow these again! My kids loved the bite size and the flavor- sort of salty, sour, very crunchy! The vines hardly looked like they could produce anything because they are so fine but these little things held up to a New England frost, twice!, that took our out “regular” cukes!

Little lemony cuties

The vines are slender but need a trellis or hanging basket. The fruit has a slightly tart edge, juicy and just adorable. Everyone is delighted to have them and we plant a lot to share because many of them don't make it in the house. Best if picked around grape tomato size.

Neat

(NW FL, Zone 8/8b, beginner) I'm new to gardening. I ordered/collected a wide variety of edibles for my garden to try to see what I like. I seen these on this site and had to try. No issues and no special care. No bugs or special amendments to soil. They were very slow to start and honestly I did not think they would grow at all. When the vines finally started to grow it was like they grew several feet overnight. I did not put them on a trellis, instead let them cover the ground. That was a mistake on my part. Unfortunately they are now a tangled mess on the ground wrapped up with grass and anything else it can cling to. So my biggest advice is don't wait. Make sure when you plant the seeds that you have trellis system already in place BC when you realize its time its already to late. I planted mine in the early spring with everything else. It is slow to make. Now that the rest of my garden has died from the unforgiving FL heat it is really taking off. Fruit was very good. I was not sure what to expect and was very pleased. Taste is a mix of sweet watermelon, crisp cucumber and a little lime like zest. Very crisp and fresh like a cucumber. I can envision eating it in a salad or in salsa. Read about pickling with mint and plan to try if we get enough harvest this year. My children (9,7,&4) loved it. We will grow it again next year, but will try to learn from our mistakes to make it a easier process. Recommend for someone who likes to try new stuff.
